Our church has recently joined many others in a newer approach
to evangelism called Servant Evangelism. Servant Evangelism is an outreach
ministry that allows people to demonstrate God's love by doing humble acts of
service with no strings attached. The idea behind this ministry is to show
people they are loved by helping them in some way while not wanting anything in
return. As a result, people experience God's love and become more receptive to
hearing the message of His son, Jesus Christ.
This ministry is unique for
several reasons. The first is that it is a very different approach to
evangelism than traditional methods allowing Christians to "plant seeds" in a
large group of people in a short period of time. Usually projects last for one
to two hours, but reach several hundred people. Secondly, this ministry allows
people of all ages to participate in ministering to others regardless of their
level of spiritual maturity. All they have to do is perform a service, say
something like "This is just a practical way to show you Jesus loves you" and
give a little card with information about the ministry and our church. Lastly,
Servant Evangelism is very easy and fun. To give someone something and say God
loves them does not require a lot of skill meaning that everyone can be
effective in this ministry. People are also discovering how rewarding it is to
help others and that it is a lot of fun!
Many at NKBC have discovered these
truths from some of the Servant Evangelism projects we have already completed. These
projects include several drink giveaways, a gas giveaway, a community cleanup
and most recently, some painting for needy families and a homeless ministry done
by the youth. There are many things being considered for future projects
including a free car wash, buying drinks for people at large events and possibly
helping others to build homes for needy families. We also would like to get
more involved with DSS to help individuals within the community.
Please be in
prayer for this ministry and all those involved as we continue to reach out to
others with the love of Jesus Christ.
